English: The relief sculptures of Chabimura is one of those great archeological attractions that has very few parallels in India.

Chabimura is located in the Baramura hill range between Udaipur, and Amarpur, a town of Gomati district at the southern part of Tripura. From the capital city Agartala, Udaipur is about 50 km and from there, Amarpur is about 25 km. From Amarpur it takes about half-an-hour by car to reach Radhukhamar, traversing the hilly village tracks and negotiating an uneven road that is not perfectly motorble in the rainy season .At Radhukhamar, where Chabimura is situated,a tourist accommodation has just been developed to provide the visitors with some basic amenities like food and accommodation, if one prefers to stay for the night. Since the sculptures of Chabimura are hewn on the rocky, mountainous embankments of Gomati River spanning over a couple of kilometers, the best viewing of those sculptures are possible from a boat — either a motor boat that is capable of carrying 15 -20 visitors, or a small country boat meant for 2-3 persons. Under the guidance of the Tripura Tourism Development Corporations, a village cooperative runs the boat service facility. On motorboat, its 2-3 hours’ cruise in the river with a canopy of green forests on either side of the river bank, interspersed with the breathtakingly beautiful rock sculptures that bring out in clear relief the artistic sense of its creators. In the background of deep forest and the interplay of light and shade on the river, Chabimura looks like a fairy tale coming alive. Historians and archeologists believe that the sculptures are carved sometimes between 15th to 16th centuries. The first rock panel is an embossment of Brahma-Vishnu-Maeshwar, the trinity of the Hindu gods, accompanied by Ganesha and Kartika— the offspring of Maheshwara. This panel is called “The panel of Pachadevata” or five gods. The height of this panel is 9 meters and 80 cm and its breadth is 5 meters and 80 cm. Proceeding further towards west, there is another panel of 37 images of a procession of dancing men and women. As the river wends to the west, it leads to a mesmerizingly beautiful world of dense forest where sunlight can enter only through the porous forests, reminding one of the exhilarating experiences of cruising in the Amazon. About half-an-hour further to the west, in gripping denouement of what Chabimura is famous for, one can see a huge idol of Devi Charakma— the local version of goddess Durga. The image is 12 meter 88 cm in height and 7 meter and 76 cm in breadth. People with archeological interests are of the opinion that the Chabimura carvings are no less wonderful and important in comparison to many other heritage sites of the world.

The magnificent forest of Devtamura hill is rich with wide variety of tree ferns, climbers,thickets, large trees and wild animals. Once the hill was dominated by wild elephants. This emerald green forest and the landscape along with the relief sculpture is wonderful and worthy to watch.
