বর্তমানে সাইসম্বুন প্রদেশ (ডিসেম্বর ২০১৩ থেকে) ছিল একটি অঞ্চল যা ভিয়েতনাম যুদ্ধের সময় মার্কিন সেনাবাহিনী এই অঞ্চলে হমনগ জনগণকে নিয়োগ করেছিল, উত্তর ভিয়েতনামী সেনাবাহীর বিরুদ্ধে সমর্থন হিসেবে। প্রদেশের পূর্বাঞ্চলে এখনো অবিস্ফোরিত গুলি দেখা যায়। ভিয়েতনাম যুদ্ধের পর, লাওসের নতুন কমিউনিস্ট সরকার মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের সমর্থনকারী হমনগ জনগণের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিশোধ নেয় এবং তাদের বিরুদ্ধে পাশবিক অত্যাচার চালায়। পরবর্তী হমন সংঘর্ষের কারণে সরকার ১৯৯৪ থেকে ২০০৬ সাল পর্যন্ত কার্যকর একটি বিশেষ অঞ্চল প্রতিষ্ঠা করে, যা বিদেশীদের জন্য বন্ধ ছিল। বিশেষ অঞ্চলটি সমাধান হওয়ার পরও, ২০১১ সাল পর্যন্ত বিদেশী মোটরসাইকেল চালকদের এই অঞ্চলে প্রবেশ করতে হলে ফিরে যেতে, উচ্চ জরিমানা দিতে বা আটক হওয়ার অভিযোগ পাওয়া গেছে। এখন প্রদেশটি পর্যটনের জন্য উন্মুক্ত করার প্রচেষ্টা চলছে, ২০১৬ সালকে 'ভিজিট সাইসম্বুন ইয়্যার' হিসেবে ঘোষণা করা হয়েছে।

চলাফেরা করার জন্য সবচেয়ে ভাল উপায় হল মোটরসাইকেল ব্যবহার করা, কারণ প্রায় সব সড়কই মাটির রাস্তা। হিটচাইকিং সম্ভব হতে পারে, তবে যানবাহনের সংখ্যা খুবই কম। দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিম প্রান্ত থেকে হ্রদের পূর্ব প্রান্তে নাম গুম ২ হ্রদে নৌকা পরিষেবার ব্যবস্থা রয়েছে।

  • জারসের সমভূমি - এখানে কয়েকটি স্থানে ছড়িয়ে ছিটিয়ে থাকা শত শত রহস্যময় পাথরের জার রয়েছে।
  • ছাও আনুভং গুহা। এটি রাজধানীর নিকটে অবস্থিত 
  • ফু বিআ। লাওসের সর্বোচ্চ পর্বত, যা রাজধানীর নিকটে অবস্থিত। প্রদেশে নতুন পর্যটন উদ্যোগের মাধ্যমে এটি পরিদর্শনের জন্য উন্মুক্ত হতে পারে। 
  • নাম গুম ২ জলবিদ্যুৎ প্রকল্প। এটি নাম গুম ১ বাঁধের উপরের দিকে অবস্থিত বাঁধ ও হ্রদ। ব্যান নংপৌ থেকে দক্ষিণে ৯৩০৮ নম্বর সড়কটি উপরে থেকে হ্রদের দুর্দান্ত দৃশ্য প্রদান করে, তবে এটি সরাসরি হ্রদের তীরে নিয়ে যায় না (কিছু মানচিত্রে যেভাবে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে)। পশ্চিম থেকে তীরে যেতে, থা হেউয়া থেকে ৫ নম্বর সড়কটি নিন অথবা ন্যাকসায় সাভাংয়ে একটি পার্শ্ব সড়ক ব্যবহার করুন। ২০১১ সালে সম্পন্ন হওয়া এই প্রকল্পটি বর্তমানে কিছু গ্রাম এবং সড়ককে ঢাকা দিয়েছে, যা এখনও কিছু পুরনো মানচিত্রে দেখা যায়। (হালনাগাদের তারিখ জুন ২০১৫)
  • লং তিয়েং (ফন্সাভান থেকে যাওয়ার পথে)। এটি ভিয়েতনাম যুদ্ধে একটি শহর এবং গোপন বিমান ঘাঁটি ছিল। 
  • নাং ফোন হোম গুহা। এটি একটি গুহা ব্যবস্থা, যা ফা তাং থেকে বান সুৱাংয়ের দিকে যাওয়ার সড়কে সাইনবোর্ড করা আছে। এখানে হাঁটার জন্য একাধিক অংশ রয়েছে এবং একটি নদী আছে, যেখানে আপনি সাঁতার কাটতে পারেন। ১০,০০০ কিপ।
